TASMANIAN HANG GLIDING & PARAGLIDING ASSOCIATION
Who Is The THPA & What Do We Do?
Firstly, we DO NOT do tandem flights or instruction. (see the "How/Where to Learn" page for these things)
The THPA is the governing association in Tasmania for paragliding, hang gliding, powered paragliding and microlight flying. We are affiliated with SAFA (Sports Aviaition Federation of Australia) who in turn administer free-flying in Australia on behalf of CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority)
We welcome all enquiries about flying in Tasmania from anyone who is interested in learning more. Our members hold pilot ratings issued by the SAFA, which range from those just starting out through to advanced pilots. We presently have over 100 members scattered around the state with around 30 recognised sites on private and state-owned land. We are also the only state in Australia with open access to national parks and reserves for THPA members.
Our committee members work hard to provide a structure and focus for our sports to thrive in Tasmania. We pride ourselves on acquiring, managing and protecting access to flying sites for future generations of pilots to enjoy.

Our Mission – Fly Safe & Have Fun
The mission of the THPA is to promote the enjoyment of our flying sports in Tasmania - to both the public as well as new members - and to support existing members to further their flying enjoyment.
We are strong believers in building an inviting, supportive and friendly club culture.
Simply said - we want to get more people into our great flying sports, whilst helping them to get better and safer at flying.
